John Vo is a working artist that paints to connect to people. Through classes and workshops they create space to explore different processes for art making. In their studio practice they could be described as a materialist, sourcing textiles with a story and origin.
Their latest work utilizes Vietnamese silk, chiffon textile, and Cone denim as connecting points in Vo’s family’s migration story. Tracing memory, Vo wrestles with the ideas of ownership and inheritance as they emphasize the diaphanous quality to remembering, and investigates memory and remembering as aspects of meaning and identity.
